The Air Force has finalized a sinister proposal to impose a permanent, massive urban war range impacting nearly a million people across southern Idaho. The war range will be used to practice local assassinations for real death across the globe – with F-15 war planes circling overhead, and military personnel on the ground disguised as civilians lurking in our neighborhoods.
This Air Force hubris in using our cities as a combat range demonstrates that, in addition to the billions of people around the globe, the U.S. military does not value the life and health of American civilians either.
There is risk of a catastrophic plane crash. We will suffer increased air pollution in cities that already have problems with unhealthy air, and the planes induce disturbing noise pollution.
Boise Mayor Dave Bieter and other cities’ officials claim to be comfortable with the war range. Their failure to stand up for the health, safety and well-being of a diverse civilian population –– some of whom oppose militarism for reasons of conscience or who have been exposed to serious war trauma –– makes a mockery of the City of Boise boasts about “livability”.
Idaho residents have been essentially conscripted by the military to use our bodies, homes, cars and animals as chaos in a permanent war combat range. Nowhere else in the country does such a range exist. The Stop Urban War Coalition rejects these plans, and calls on all people to join us in the struggle against militarism.
